On the eve of the Museum Night Darwin Museum is opening a witty exhibition “Barbershop for bearded Bulbul” to show the most stylish animals with moustaches and/or beards. In Wild Nature birds and animals use beards not only to look like macho, but most often to adjust their body temperature, to find a couple for mating and to even attract their prey or to find food. We are inviting you to appreciate more than 80 trendy animals and birds of Darwin museum collection, as well as 50 best works selected at the photo competition “Moustaches and Beards”.

Beards are extremely popular nowadays with trendy styles and fashion for barber shops. But how is this relevant to the Darwin museum?

A wise bearded man – Charles Darwin – was first to suggest that beard is the result of sexual selection, as it makes men look more masculine. The same principle applies to the animal world. You can see for yourself at the exhibition that no matter how hard your barber tries, some animals and birds may have beards and/or moustaches more chic than you do. Birds, animals and even reptiles that have thick and colourful beards, moustaches and crests will be represented at the exhibition in all their beauty. Such a big collection of bearded birds – the hummingbirds – of the Darwin Museum will be displayed for the first time among an astonishing variety of other exotic birds.
