Darwin
museum is hosting annual summer exhibition of animalistic artworks, initiated
by animalist sculptor Petr Khokhlovkin. It showcases works made of various
materials – wood, bronze, grog/chamotte, batik, glass, ceramic, watercolour – by
contemporary artists from Moscow. This exhibition continues an old tradition,
set by the founders of Darwin museum – Alexander Kohts and Nadezhda
Ladygina-Kohts – which is to replenish the museum’s art collection by the works
of young animalist artists.
Animalistic
art is one of the oldest artistic movements dating back to the Paleolithic age.
This quite rare genre gives a great freedom to artists, allowing them to experiment
with techniques and materials. Therefore, visitors will be able to enjoy the
freedom of artistic expression, ranging from academic to futuristic works.
The name of
the exhibition is reflecting the large variety of subjects – as in the medieval
bestiaries, at the exhibition you will find all kinds of existing animals, as
well as the surreal ones, created purely by the artists’ imagination.
