At the beginning of summer the legendary “Bestiary” returns to the walls of the Darwin Museum. For quarter of a century animalist artists annually present their new works in one of the most beautiful and bright halls of the museum - the Greenhouse.

“Bestiary” is the partnership project of the Darwin Museum and curator Pyotr Khokhlovkin. This is not only an exhibition, but also a community of artists, based on recognized masters such as Artyom Vlasov, Vladimir Zabotkin, Pyotr Khokhlovkin, Ramil Sherifzyanov and others; its number constantly grows with young authors joining. The best works of the “Bestiary” often remain in the collections of the State Darwin Museum. Thus, the collection of animalistics, started by the founders of the museum Nadezhda Ladygina-Kohts and Alexander Kohts, is supplemented by modern works. From year to year, the permanent curator of the exhibition Pyotr Khokhlovkin manages to maintain the spirit of goodwill, mutual interest of the participants and optimistic atmosphere. The exhibition is unusual with the exposition always being formed the day before the opening, and the works are selected by the artists themselves. Therefore, the exhibition turns out to be very “alive”, it surprises every time.

By tradition, the small hall is dedicated to the personal exhibition of one of the permanent participants of the “Bestiary”. This year it will be the brilliant animal sculptor Artyom Vlasov (born 1967, member of the Ministry of Agriculture and Association of Moscow Sculptors).

Artem Igorevich Vlasov is a member of the Association of Moscow Sculptors and the Sculpture Section of the Moscow Union of Artists since 1997. For 20 years he has been displaying his works at the “Bestiary” exhibition. In 2018 he held a personal exhibition at the Darwin Museum. Since childhood, he has been fond of sculpture and animals, especially birds. He works not only in animalistic, but also in other genres. He is the author of the monument to N.F. Fedorov in the city of Borovsk and the portrait of A.F. Losev in the Library of the History of Russian Philosophy and Culture on the Arbat. Vlasov is the author of "Crucifixion with the Forthcoming" in the Pafnutevo-Borovsky Monastery as well.

He considers the search for the image or the archetype of any living creature to be the main in his work, since he finds all animals beautiful and worthy of comprehension and image. In general, the art for him is perceived not as a means of self-expression, but as a way of knowing the world around. He also tries to master a variety of materials in their free combination. In addition to the fine arts he keeps various pets, among which he considers songbirds to be his favorite.
