The exhibition is dedicated to the study of the nature of Mongolia which has been carried out since the 19th century. Although the Age of Discovery ended in the 17th century, some territories remained “terra incognita” for over 250 years. Mongolia is one of such regions. Before the 19th century, there were no complete and correct maps, very little was known about its geography, ethnography, and folklore, as well as about its flora and fauna. Today we can be grateful to Russian explorers of the 19th century for making most of this information available to us.

The exhibition will feature animalistic paintings by a renowned Russian zoologist and paleontologist Konstantin Flyorov inspired by his expedition to Mongolia, ethnographic objects from the State Darwin Museum reserves and The State Museum of Oriental Art, as well as representatives of the flora and fauna of the region. The heart of the exhibition is the objects and photos from the joint Russian-Mongolian interdisciplinary expedition.
