The exhibition
"The Storyteller of the Kingdom of Denmark" invites children and adults
into the magical world of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales. You will learn
the details of the storyteller’s biography, find out who inspired the heroes of
"The Ugly Duckling", and who were the prototypes of Thumbelina and
the Snow Queen. Take a picture inside a huge flower and see the puppets
starring in plays based on the works by Andersen.
An exhibition hall
dedicated to the biography of the great storyteller transports visitors to the Kingdom of Denmark of the 19th century. Some of the photographs were kindly
provided by the Danish partner of the museum - the Association of Museums of
H.C. Andersens in Odense – H.C. Andersen’s Odense. Here you will find curious
details of the writer's childhood and adolescence. When Andersen became
world-famous, he preserved the ability to be amazed at the new, traveled a lot,
and kept a detailed diary. He could create a fairy tale, play, or
novel inspired by every little thing he met on his way. A short film, provided
by the AZ Museum, will tell about Andersen and the avant-garde artist Anatoly
Zverev, who created illustrations to the tales of the Danish writer.
The greenhouse of the
museum is the place where you will meet with the heroes of the fairy tales
"Thumbelina", "The Snow Queen", "The Tinderbox",
"The Little Mermaid". The fairy tale "Thumbelina" was
published exactly 185 years ago, but it still is one of the favorite tales
of children and adults. Only for the exhibition, the Moscow Puppet Theater
shared with us their "actors" performing in this play. You will also
discover some interesting facts about "The Snow Queen" and its
prototype, as well as see the “actors” of Mytishchi puppet theater
"Ognivo" starring in "The Tinderbox".
Things to do:
Children can create their own magic flower at the
workshop on the exhibition or guess the
characters from the fairy tales.
The exhibition is accompanied by a varied program and guided tours by the curator.
